HEDGEHOGS BY SERGIO

Hedgehogs are about 25 cm long, and weigh about 1 kg. They have 6.000 spines to protect them from predators. The spines aren't poisonous. They aren't easy to remove.

Although hedgehogs normally stay on the ground, they can swim quite well and can even climb trees. If a hedgehog falls from a tree, its spines are usefull again. When it lands on the ground, it bounces because of its spines.

When hedgehogs go to sleep, they curl up into a ball. This is to protect the part of their legs and their bellies. Foxes, and other predators leave the hedgehogs and look for easier prey - specially prey that isn´t covered with spines!
