Morgan Freeman was born on June 1, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee. He is the son of Mayme Edna and Morgan Portefield Freeman. He spent most of his childhood with his grandmother in Charleston, Mississippi, Gary, Indiana, and finally Chicago, Illinois. During his stay in Charleston and Greenwood, Freeman attended the Threadgill Elementary School, where he appeared in his first play. On the night of August 3, 2008 Freeman was in car accident in the state of Mississippi and was admitted to a hospital in the city of Memphis with severe prognosis. Morgan Freeman has been nominated for Oscars five times and won once for "Million Dollar Baby." He was also nominated for the Golden Globes five times and earned one.
